Kaitlyn's 11th Birthday!!

We celebrated Kaitlyn's 11th birthday this weekend! We've been talking about her birthday for the last few weeks trying to prepare her a bit. She has no clue what a birthday party or gifts are! She thought the Christmas tree was a decoration for her party! She is completely obvilous to Christmas and all the Christmas traditions as well.

Anyhow, we started the weekend off by taking the girls to get their ears pierced. Kailey got one diamond stud on her cartilage, Kaitlyn got both ears pierced for the first time and so did their baby cousin, Carly! All were brave... even Carly. Kaitlyn invited 5 friends from school to come to her party. We took the girls to Peter Piper Pizza for lunch and games. Then we met the family back at the house for cake and presents. She had a great time and it was really cute to see her interact with her friends. This was the first time she's had friends over to the house. She did really good, but would come check on me ever so often to see if I was still close by. I redirected her to visit with her friends and she would skip out of the room and go play with them. Riley especially dotes on Kaitlyn and has taken a special interest in teaching her and showing her things.

Kaitlyn looks great & so happy! It's amazing how these kids transform in such a short time.
I would think that the ear piercing was nothing after the tooth pulling in China. Miss you guys - I know Lindsay misses Kailey. Maybe there will be a trip out to AZ for us this summer? Tell Kaitlyn "happy birthday".

Happy birthday, Kaitlyn!! She and Kailey looked so pretty (and grown-up!!) in their ear-piercing pictures. I hope it was a really fun and happy day for Kaitlyn and all of your family!

I am a "Michigan Friend" of Audrey's and just found HER blog and saw this link...started reading and have admired your journey to Kaitlyn.

We adopted our Kaleigh 8 years ago in China, so reading your blog brought back many memories (and tears of joy). So happy for you. The adjustments have just begun, I am sure and you will be amazed for a very long time at how much you can learn about a child!

Thanks for sharing your site with me. Maybe Audrey has told you about me!
